How often is the 401k Audit Scout data updated?
Monthly. Each refresh downloads the U.S. Department of Labor’s latest EFAST2 Form 5500 and Schedule H bulk files for the current plan year, rebuilds every ranking and profile, and adds a dated entry below. The current build uses plan year 2024 data: 77,427 audited filings from 4,052 firms.

Schedule H rows are the raw records processed; audited filings are the rows naming an independent qualified public accountant after de-duplication. See the methodology for definitions.
What changes with each refresh?
- Counts move. Late, extended, and amended filings keep arriving for months after a plan year closes, so engagement counts, state totals, and rankings can shift between refreshes.
- Every page is rebuilt. National rankings, state directories, firm profiles, benchmarks, and the embeddable ranking badges are regenerated from the new files; nothing is edited by hand.
- Dates update everywhere. The visible “Last updated” line, the machine-readable
dateModifiedin each page’s JSON-LD, and the sitemaplastmodall come from one build constant. - Plan year rolls forward when the Department of Labor publishes a new year’s bulk files, at which point the methodology line on every ranking names the new year.
